While the MegaMan franchise has been kind of barren for new content and releases as of late, that doesn't mean there isn't anything for fans of the series to look forward to. (And no, I'm not talking about Mighty no. 9 either.) There's actually another MegaMan inspired game that's been in development for a while. It's called 20XX
and it's being developed by Batterystaple Games. Currently it's in Early Access on Steam. (It's getting pretty close to release though... It's at version .91, the update to .92 is later today, and it's set for release at version 1.0 or roughly summer 2016.)
Despite the fact the name suggests it has more in common with the MegaMan classic series, it actually has more to do with MegaMan X. Jumping, Shooting and Dashing all feel as familiar to how they did in the X series. Plus wall climbing, armour upgrades (4 sets in this game) and powers. Oh, and the fact that there is both an X-like character and a Zero-like character to play as. But it's not like a traditional MegaMan X game either. It borrows elements from roguelikes. If you've ever played Spelunky, Crypt of the Necrodancer or games like that then you'll be familiar with some elements. But in case not... it uses a random generation system to create unique levels so that no 2 runs of a level are exactly the same (so forget memorizing layouts). Plus it has plenty of powerups to be collected in runs to improve the character. And if playing single player is giving you trouble... there's the option to add a friend and go co-op to try getting through levels.
Personally I've been having a lot of fun with the game (you can see some of my plays here
). If you've been looking for a good MegaMan like game to have some fun with, this may be of interest to you.
